Serenia Residences occupies one of the most coveted positions on The Palm Jumeira a beachfront residential development designed by Hazel Wong, whose approach to luxury coastal living is defined by a seamless integration of interior space and sea view. The brief for this commission: a private residence within Serenia, photographed to communicate the quality of the design and the scale of the views.

The defining design decision in this residence is the open plan. Island kitchen, dining, and living areas flow without interruption a spatial sequence that exists entirely to serve the panoramic view of the Arabian Sea visible through floor-to-ceiling glazing.
The windows don't frame the view; they dissolve the boundary between inside and outside until the sea becomes part of the room. The material palette is calibrated for this location. Sand-coloured furniture and earthy tones mirror the beach immediately outside. The palette is warm enough to feel residential and restrained enough to keep the eye moving toward the water.

Blue and gold accents in the décor bring the colours of the sea and sky indoors in a way that is considered rather than literal a design note that elevates the overall palette without disrupting the calm of the space.

Photographing a beachfront residence like Serenia requires a continuous negotiation between the interior and the exterior. The light coming off the water is bright and shifting. The interior palette is warm and still. Finding the exposure that keeps both readable that makes the sea visible beyond the glass without bleaching the room inside is the technical challenge that defines this kind of shoot.
